Interim executive leadership, full-time for as long as you need it

When a senior role can't sit empty, or a critical period needs one accountable leader, I step in full-time, steady the business, deliver the plan and hand over properly.

What is an interim executive?

An interim executive is a senior leader who joins full-time for a fixed term, usually three to eighteen months, to cover a gap, lead a transformation or steer the business through a critical period, then hands over to a permanent leader.

Fractional vs interim: which do you need?

When companies call me

  • A senior leader has left suddenly, and the role can’t sit empty while you search
  • A merger, acquisition or integration needs one person owning the operating plan
  • You’re preparing for an IPO, raise or sale, and the go-to-market story has to hold up
  • A turnaround or cost reset needs full-time attention, not one day a week
  • A platform, AI or automation program needs a full-time executive owner
  • You’re launching into a new market and need someone on the ground

How an interim engagement works

From first call to clean handover

  1. 1

    A 30-minute call

What’s happened, what can’t wait and what success looks like at the end of the term.

  2. 2

    Short scoping

Days, not months. We agree the mandate, decision rights, term and how we report to the CEO and board.

  3. 3

    Start and stabilise

I meet the team, take the decisions that can’t wait and write a 30/60/90-day plan the board can track.

  4. 4

    Deliver

Full-time ownership of the plan, with the same accountability as a permanent executive.

  5. 5

    Hand over

I help recruit and onboard the permanent leader, then step back, or move to a fractional or advisory role if that suits you.

FAQ

Interim executives: common questions

What is the difference between an interim and a fractional executive?

An interim executive works full-time for a fixed term, usually to cover a gap or lead a critical period. A fractional executive works part-time, typically one to three days a week, on an ongoing basis. I offer both, and the right choice depends on the problem rather than the budget.

How quickly can an interim executive start?

It depends on my current commitments, and I’ll tell you on the first call. Because there’s no search process, interim cover usually starts far sooner than a permanent hire.

How long do interim engagements last?

Typically three to eighteen months: long enough to stabilise the business, deliver the critical work and hand over properly.

How much does an interim executive cost?

Interim engagements are quoted after a call, because the term, scope and location vary so much. For part-time roles, my fractional seats start from A$12,000 + GST a month.

Will you relocate for an interim role?

Yes. I’m based in Melbourne and work remotely worldwide, and I’m open to travel and to relocating for longer interim engagements.

Do you help hire the permanent replacement?

Yes. Part of a good interim engagement is leaving the role ready for a permanent leader, so I help write the brief, assess candidates and onboard whoever you hire.

Need someone in the seat, soon?

Tell me what's happened and what can't wait. If interim isn't the right answer, I'll say so.
